PRACTITIONER

A dynamic embodied present, rooted in rich tradition with a vision for the future.
Rajyashree Ramesh brings several decades of collective experiences as performer, teacher, choreographer and researcher. Born and raised in India, and based in Germany since 1977, her work reveals a rich tapestry of varied activities. The range extends from early learnings of Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music and Kuchipudi with 2-hour solo performances of the classical repertoire, to performing, teaching and choreographing in cross-cultural set-ups, from in-depth movement studies to academic research.
Her artistic work with the traditional vocabulary has been unique in its cross-cultural transmission, often challenging and looking beyond the still persistent perspectives and discourses on what dance needs to be. her dance and choreographic signature multidimensional in approach, her teaching pioneering in methodology, and her cross-disciplinary academic research first of its kind (reviewers), bridging practise and theory, art and science, ancient and modern insights. She has innumerable solo performances, ensemble productions, teaching assignments, workshops, lectures, lecture-performances, paper presentations and publications to her credit, and has been featured in radio, TV and newspaper interviews.
In the post-academic phase Rajyashree continues to develop time-relevant choreographic concepts even as she moves on to focussing on research-based work with a vision for future despite all challenges. This includes writings, lectures, lecture-performances, specialised courses and workshops, and an advanced professional training programme for movement professionals looking for a global application of dance and body knowledge. For her first of its kind transcultural and transdisciplinary Dance & Movement Studies programme.. See
